His father, the sculptor Auguste Jean Baptiste Lechesne (1815-1888), was the winner of the second Prix de Rome in 1856, and was categorized as one of the great ornamental sculptors of the time. That said, Henri, born in the nineteenth century, can be proud of having sculpted the most famous “gull surfing on a wave”. A daring bronze that will win a following.
